Our Story

Wired Electrical & Design specializes in residential, commercial and off-grid electrical services in Campbell River, on Quadra Island, Cortes Island, and the surrounding Discovery Islands. This includes new construction, renovations, additions, design builds, emergency backup systems, complex electrical projects, energy-efficient upgrades, repairs, and maintenance services.

how it all started

Wired Electrical & Design was founded in 2006 by Bob McDonnell with a $500 van and a lot of determination. We’ve since grown into a team of over 20 people, never losing sight of what’s most important: being a trusted, reliable part of our community. As a family-oriented business, our staff and customers are our extended family. Our staff retention is a point of pride for our close-knit team, so when you call us, you can count on seeing familiar faces who know your home and understand your needs. We take pride in the reputation we’ve built locally—delivering honest, premier electrical services to the people and businesses in Campbell River. Whether it’s a small repair or a larger project, we bring the same level of professionalism, expertise, and care to every job, making sure our work stands the test of time.

Bob McDonnell, our founder and Master Electrician, is proud to have grown Wired Electrical & Design into a trusted local business built on the values that matter to him most: family, trust, and hard work. With over 30 years of experience, Bob’s passion for the trade goes hand-in-hand with his commitment to building a company that truly cares about its employees and customers. Our company is more than an electrical business —it’s about creating opportunities for tradespeople, supporting families, and delivering superior customer service in Campbell River.

Supporting the Future

At Wired Electrical & Design, we’re dedicated to helping young electricians get their start, and personally mentor many through our apprenticeship program in partnership with North Island College. The Electrician Apprenticeship program at NIC prepares students to work as electricians in residential, commercial, and industrial settings, aiming for the Interprovincial (Red Seal) certification. We are thrilled to be involved in mentoring the next generation of skilled tradespeople on Vancouver Island.
